HONOLULU -- In Saturday night's season opener, Hawaii defeated Stanford 23–20 thanks to two touchdown throws from Micah Alejado and three field goals from Kansei Matsuzawa, including a 38-yarder as time ran out. One of his former quarterbacks, Andrew Luck, hired Cardinal interim head coach Frank Reich in March, but his debut was marred by Matsuzawa's last kick. After Troy Taylor was fired in the offseason, Luck, the Cardinals' new football general manager, is searching the entire country for a permanent coach. Regardless of the coach on the sidelines, Saturday night demonstrated to Luck, who was seated in the coaches' box above the stadium, that the ACC program still has a ways to go.
