Frauenstreik 2023: A Call for Equality
On June 14, 2023, women across Switzerland will be taking to the streets to demand equality. The Frauenstreik, or Women's Strike, is a day of action to protest against gender inequality in all its forms. Women in Switzerland still face a number of challenges, including: Pay inequality: Women earn on average 20% less than men for doing the same work. Unpaid care work: Women are responsible for the majority of unpaid care work, such as raising children and caring for elderly relatives. Sexual harassment and violence: Women are disproportionately affected by sexual harassment and violence. The Frauenstreik is a call for change. Women are demanding: Equal pay for equal work: Women want to be paid the same as men for doing the same work. Reduced unpaid care work: Women want more support for unpaid care work, such as affordable childcare and eldercare.
